Ongoing Response for Camino Structure Fire in Otay Mesa

CAL FIRE/San Diego County Fire along with San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, San Diego-Fire Rescue Department, and San Diego County Department of Environmental Health – Hazardous Materials Division are working in collaboration to mitigate a commercial structure fire near 600 Camino De La Fuente, in Otay Mesa that began on May 15th.

The structure fire involves lithium-ion batteries, that have been experiencing thermal runaway, along with harmful gases, making building access an issue for firefighters. Containment efforts have kept the fire confined to the original building. The Evacuation Order and Warning will be in place throughout the duration of the incident unless deemed safe to lift for public safety. The structure fire is in a commercial area with no residential impacts expected at this time.
